Blogging
While many think blogging is a social based activity, business owners who have been using this as a marketing tool have found that it is a powerful one. Blogging helps you keep in touch with current customers, reach new customers, connect with influencers, tell the story behind your product or service and significantly help you site in terms of your search engine optimization efforts. Be sure to check out the Barnes Internet Marketer's Resource Guide for plenty of blogging resources.
Blogging is easy, but you need to have a plan.
It's true. You hear people talking about blogging all the time. Many people discuss topics of interest to them. In the case of your business, you'll be blogging about products you sell, services you provide or anything else related to the business you are in. When using blogging as a marketing tool, it's especially important to be very passionate and knowledgeable about the topics you write about. Not only will this help drive traffic to your site, you'll build a solid foundation with your viewers and will be known as an authority on the subject matter. You want people to continue to return to your blog so that they'll continually be exposed to your website, and become a long term customer.
Don't select a blogging topic just because you think a lot of people are interested in it.
This is critical because people will know right away if you are not an expert in the topic. People know when they are being spoken to by someone who really doesn't have a clue about what they are talking about. Same with the written word. The last thing you want to do is to turn off potential customers from reading your blog. Choosing to write about something you don't know a whole lot about is setting yourself up for disaster. All the time you put into setting up and writing the blog will be wasted because no one will want to read what you have to say. Understand that blogging is a long term commitment. By writing about a subject that you are passionate about, you'll find that you look forward to writing blog posts. You'll also find that it's much easier to write as well. On the flip side, if you aren't well versed and passionate about your blog topic, you'll find that it's a chore to write posts and you'll likely not write nearly as many, defeating the purpose of having one in the fist place. Another reason you want to be blogging about a topic that you are passionate and knowledgeable about is that people will be quick to point out any mistakes. Not a big deal if they point them out to you. We're all human. But if you're blogging, you're likely going to have the comments turned on so you can get feedback from your customers. The problem with mistakes regarding the content is when people leave comments for others to see that call your information into question. Regarding a platform, I'd strongly recommend Wordpress as it's the easiest blogging platform available in my opinion. Add in the Clickbump Engine and Clickbump SEO Plugin and you've got an unbeatable combination when it comes to blogging. There are so many benefits with blogging about your business, it only makes good sense to incorporate it into your overall marketing plan.
